Okocha warns Super Eagles against complacency in WCQ playoffs

Ex-Super Eagles skipper Austin Jay Jay Okocha has warned the Super Eagles against complacency following their pairing against Ethiopia for the playoffs of the World Cup qualifiers.

Even though Okocha confessed that Nigeria comparatively had the best fixture for the playoffs, he however noted that Ethiopia worked hard for their qualification and so should not be taken lightly.

“The Ethiopians didn’t get a bye to qualify for this final stage; they worked hard to qualify. We cannot, therefore, afford to take them for granted. We must put our acts together to ensure that we beat them and qualify,” Okocha told The Punch.

Okocha has urged the Eagles to make use of their lone advantage in the playoffs which is the fact that they will be playing the first leg in Ethiopia.

“It is very helpful that the Eagles are playing first in Addis Ababa which is surely an advantage. But we must then use every advantage to our benefit by preparing for the encounter like a real World Cup game. We have no reason not to qualify,” Okocha said.
